As someone who strength trains regularly and is always on the go, having snacks on hand is essential. Between busy days, parenting, errands, and workouts, I rely on quick options that help keep my energy up and support my daily protein goals for strength training and muscle building.
When I choose snacks, I look for options that are filling, easy to carry, and contain at least some protein. In this list, you’ll find a mix of snacks that are great for travel, easy to keep stocked in the pantry, and a few sweet treats that are simply enjoyable to have around.
Many of these snacks are also dairy-free. As someone who personally has issues with dairy, I know that gluten-free and dairy-free often go hand in hand for many people. I can tolerate small amounts of certain dairy products, like cheese, but foods containing milk or cream tend to bother me. Another bonus is that most of these snacks are family-friendly. I have two young kids, and they happily eat almost everything on this list.
What I Look for in a Gluten-Free Snack
Not all gluten-free snacks are created equal. In general, I try to eat as healthy as I can and avoid too many ultra-processed ingredients. I do limit snacks overall, but there are still a handful that I genuinely enjoy and keep on hand.
When I choose a snack, I look for options with simple, recognizable ingredients whenever possible. A good rule of thumb is that if the ingredient list is full of things you can’t pronounce, it may not be the best choice.
As for safety, I try to stick to products that are certified gluten-free whenever I can. On occasion, I do eat items that are simply labeled gluten-free without certification, but I am more careful with those. Over time, you start to learn which brands are reputable, which products you trust, and which ones are better to avoid.
